Converge is a comprehensive online virtual terminal that allows businesses to accept payment anywhere, from online invoicing, EMV-card reader to payment button to improve patient experience and office efficiency.

*Recommended for any large businesses who want the full capacity of virtual terminal with multiple stations card reader.

Due to the higher risk of fraud, card-not-present transactions, such as phone orders or online invoicing, are inherently less secure than in-person transactions. This increased risk results in higher rates.

On average, if your effective in-person rate is around 1.73%, you can expect an online rate of around 2.25%, approximately 0.50% higher. Unlike providers such as Stripe or Square, which operate on a flat-rate model of 3.50%, up to 5.00%, our rates are determined by a low-cost interchange rate model.

We have negotiated features to provide Talech Virtual Terminal as a free service. We value technology and efficiency, especially solutions that reduce staff time, such as taking payments over the phone, which can lead to human errors and higher transaction rates.

Online invoicing mitigates these issues by allowing patients to pay directly online, resulting in a more secure and frictionless process, ensuring the lowest rate for card-not-present transactions.

Yes, to access the Talech Virtual Dashboard for free, you will need to sign up for a FREE Talech mobile account via purchase any of our POS devices 

While the Talech terminal meets the needs of most optometry offices, some offices may require a more robust solution, making Converge or POYNT HQ a great option.

Key differences with Converge & POYNT HQ include:

  • Card on File: Securely store customer profiles and card details for repeat, recurring, and subscription payments.
  • Scheduled & Recurring Payments/Invoices: Support for subscriptions.
  • Desktop Card-Reader Connection: Accept payments via swipe, chip, or tap (Converge only)
  • Buy Payment Button: Add a payment button or hyperlink on your website for instant payment. 

It is always good practice and compliant to include a disclaimer notice on invoices or within your practice’s website/signage stating that all unpaid balances will be automatically charged to the card on file within a specified number of days. Always inform the patient verbally or through a written agreement to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Absolutely! This is a great service for your patients. For example, for a $2,200 annual myopia management program, you can collect a $1,000 deposit and set up a monthly recurring charge of $100 for the remaining 12 months.

Unfortunately, neither Talech, POYNT HQ or Converge allows for payment via text. Here are two workarounds if you are using third-party texting software:

  • Talech/Converge: When sending an email, cc yourself on the invoice email, then copy/paste the payment link from your email into your texting program.
  • POYNT HQ: Create a hyperlink with each invoice directly, then copy/paste that payment link into your texting program.

This practice is considered non-PCI compliant and is heavily advised against due to the liability risk if the physical device is hacked or stolen, potentially leading to lawsuits and non-compliance issues.

If you want the ability to automatically store CC information for in person transactions, we would need to do a CONVERGE SET-UP with card readers.
